Treason Trial of Aaron Burr

Professor Kent Newmyer's latest book, "The Treason Trial of Aaron Burr," has been released by Cambridge University Press. Read a review of the book and listen to Professor Newmyer comment on "the clash of the titans" between Jefferson and Marshall in a podcast on the ABA Journal Web site.

Kent Newmyer, Professor of Law and History. Professor Newmyer regularly offers two seminars in American constitutional and legal history. One focuses on select themes in constitutional history (and varies from semester). The second, Main Currents in American Legal History, treats major historical changes in American law, starting with the early national period and ending with Critical Legal Studies. Before coming to the Law School, Newmyer taught American history at the University of Connecticut. He was designated University Alumni Professor in 1988 and became emeritus in 1997. Newmyer’s publications have appeared in a wide range of historical and legal periodicals. His books include The Supreme Court Under Marshall and Taney, John Marshall & the Heroic Age of the Supreme Court and Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story: Statesman of the Old Republic. The latter received the Littleton-Griswold Award from the American Historical Association in 1985 for the best book on law and society, also a Certificate of Merit from the American Bar Association.

  • On May 21, Professor Richard A. Wilson will present "International Law of Speech Crimes" as part of a series of guest lectures at the International Criminal Court, The Netherlands. 

  • On May 20, the Law School's Insurance Law Center will present a symposium on Lawyers Professional Liability. The event is being presented in cooperation with the Hartford Chapter of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.

  • On May 17, Professor Richard Pomp will be a presenter at the 10th Annual New Mexico Tax Policy Conference in Albuquerque.

  • On May 15, Professor Darcy Kirk will be the luncheon speaker at the annual meeting of the New Jersey Law Librarians Association where she will update the group on the activities of the Association of American Law Libraries (AALL). Kirk currently serves as president of the AALL.

  • Professor Richard A. Wilson will deliver three talks in Oslo, Norway on May 14 and 15 including "Gangster's Paradise? Framing Crime in Sub-Saharan Africa" at the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Oslo.

  • On May 10, Professor Bethany Berger will moderate a discussion at the Progressive Property 2013 faculty workshop at the Loyola University, New Orleans, College of Law.
