Emergence of Finance Companies

On February 15, Professor Dalié Jiménez will present "Exploring the Emergence of Finance Companies" at the Bankruptcy Success Modeling Conference at the UCLA School of Law.

Professor Jiménez joined the UConn Law faculty in 2011.  Her interests include empirical and policy work in consumer financial protection and bankruptcy.  Her article, “The Distribution of Assets in Consumer Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Cases,” was published by the peer-reviewed American Bankruptcy Law Journal. The article won the Judge Brown Award for Excellence in Legal Writing.

Professor Jiménez spent last year on leave at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, where she served as a fellow in the Deposit, Cash, Collections & Reporting Markets group, focusing on credit reporting, debt collection, and debt relief services.  Before entering legal academia, Professor Jiménez practiced litigation at Ropes & Gray, clerked for the Honorable Juan R. Torruella in the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and worked on consumer protection issues at the Massachusetts State Senate.

    On May 15, Professor Darcy Kirk will be the luncheon speaker at the annual meeting of the New Jersey Law Librarians Association where she will update the group on the activities of the Association of American Law Libraries (AALL). Kirk currently serves as president of the AALL.

  • Hate Speech and Genocide
    Professor Richard A. Wilson will deliver three talks in Oslo, Norway on May 14 and 15 including "Gangster's Paradise? Framing Crime in Sub-Saharan Africa" at the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Oslo.

  • Insurance Regulation
    On May 10, Professor Peter Kochenburger will moderate a discussion with Therese M. Vaughan and Karel Van Hulle at the International Insurance Forum event in Washington, DC.
