The Honorable Joette Katz '77, commissioner of Connecticut's Department of Children and Families, has been named the Public Official of the Year by Governing magazine. Katz was recognized for her work in decreasing the number of children in group homes and placing them into less restrictive settings. She is credited with reducing by 70 percent the number of children in institutional care in Connecticut during the four years she has served as commissioner. According to the Website, Governing is "the nation's leading media platform covering politics, policy and management for state and local government leaders."

  • Chad Landmon '99 has been recognized by the University of Connecticut Honors Program with its 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award.

  • On May 9, Paul Arce '15, Odette Martins '15, Samem Jabarkhail '15 and Raymond Withers-Tong '15 were recognized by the Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity at a ceremony celebrating Edwin Archer Randolph.

  • The Connecticut Law Review has recognized Dorrance Sexton, Jr. '68, the editor-in-chief of the first independent Connecticut Law Review, with the 2013 Connecticut Law Review Award.

  • Cecil Thomas '06 will receive the 2013 Judge Maxwell Heiman Memorial Award from the Hartford County Bar Association on April 24. Thomas is a staff attorney for Greater Hartford Legal Aid.

  • On April 20, Cheryl A. Chase '78 and the Chase Family will be among the honorees at the White Coat Gala at the University of Connecticut Health Center.

  • Danielle P. Ferrucci '99 has been elected a fellow of the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel.
