Individual Externship Orientation
- When: January 24, 2013, 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
- Where: Chase Hall Room 210
The faculty policy regarding individual externships, which can be found here, requires that all students enrolled in an individual externship attend an Orientation Program. The orientation program is intended to review the externship enrollment, supervision and reporting processes, address students' ethical and professional responsibilities in legal practice settings, and provide guidance to students about how to be effective externs and how to learn from the externship experience. The Spring 2013 Term Orientation Program will be offered on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 12:30-1:30 and 5:15-6:15 p.m. in Chase 210. Students should attend one of the two sessions. While this program is geared to students planning to extern this semester, any student interested in the individual externship program is invited to attend. Students who have attended the externship orientation program in a prior semester need not attend again.) Another reminder will be sent out as the date nears, but students who need to attend should mark their calendars now.
In December, the faculty approved an academic regulation limiting clinical enrollment, including externships, to one course in a single term. The regulation states, ”No student may be enrolled in more than one clinic (including in-house clinical programs, partnership programs, externship clinics, and individual externships) during the same academic term. With permission of both instructors, a student may participate in Advanced Clinic Fieldwork in one clinic while enrolled in another clinic.” Any student whose individual externship enrollment plans run afoul of this regulation should contact Professor Mailly immediately.
