We are fortunate at the School of Law to be located within a very attractive residential area of Hartford known as the West End. Although we do not have any on-campus housing, there are several blocks of Victorian houses and small apartment buildings within a ten-minute walk of the campus. Upon arriving in Hartford, you will be met at the airport or bus station and brought directly to your apartment or house.
You will be assigned housing. It is very difficult to locate affordable, furnished short-term leased apartments in the area. The apartments that we have reserved for our international students are fully furnished including dishes and kitchen utensils. The only items you may need to bring or purchase are linens (sheets and towels). These are by far the nicest, cleanest, and cost effective apartments available in the area.
We have made arrangements with local property managers to offer a limited number of furnished two and three bedroom apartments and rooms in homes to exchange students for four months. Typically, a furnished room with shared bath and kitchen in a West End family's home is available for $600 - $700 per month including utilities.
In the United States, all renters must pay a security deposit. Security deposits are usually equal to one month's rent and are payable prior to move-in. If there are no damages when you move out of your apartment at the end of your lease, your security deposit will be refunded. Each student is required to pay a security deposit and August's pro-rated rent upon arrival.
The Law School does not assume any responsibility for either the owner's or the student's contractual obligations. The lease agreement is between the owner and the student. When you are assigned housing, you may not break your lease and are obligated to live in that residence for the term.
