Hiring Procedure

After formally submitting an application for employment, resumes are routed to hiring departments / faculty members. Applicants are invited to interview for a job opportunity.

Upon an offer of employment, a newly hired student goes to the UConn School of Law Office of Student Employment to complete the employment paperwork required for payroll purposes (see below).

After completing the payroll paperwork, the newly hired student may begin working when they receive an email from the School of Law Office of Student Employment. The hiring supervisor will also receive this approval email. The email approval indicates the employment Start Date and End Date, as well as other important information pertaining to working on the UConn School of Law campus.

Student jobs on the School of Law campus are all temporary with a specific start and end date for employment. Student jobs are not eligible for benefits and are paid an hourly wage. There is no guarantee of rehire into a previously held position. Students are often required to reapply for the jobs they held during a previous semester.

All paperwork listed below must be submitted to the Office of Student Employment before beginning employment.

Paperwork for Returning Student Employees

Students returning to employment on the School of Law campus are required to complete the following forms: Student Employment Authorization Information Sheet, Payroll Policies and Procedures Agreement.

Paperwork for International, Resident Alien & Non-UConn Student Employees

In addition to the forms listed above, supplemental forms need to be completed based on a student’s status:

International student employees are required to complete the Foreign National Form.

Resident Alien student employees are required to complete the Federal W-9 Tax Withholding Form.

Non-UConn student employees (including minors under the age of 18) are required to complete the Request to Hire a Non-UConn Student form and the Non-UConn Student Acknowledgement Form.
