Connecticut Superior Court Judge


The Hon. Claudia A. Baio is a Connecticut Superior Court Judge appointed to the bench by Governor Dannell Malloy in 2018. Judge Baio has presided over criminal matters, housing matters and civil and Land Use in various judicial districts where she currently sits.

She graduated from Trinity College with a bachelor’s degree in English and Educational Studies in 1986 and earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1989. She was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1989, the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut in 1990, the Massachusetts Bar in 1991, the Michigan Bar and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 2002, and the United States Supreme Court and the District of Columbia in 2003. Upon graduation from law school, Judge Baio was a clerk at the Appellate Court serving the Hon. Flemming L. Norcott, Jr.

Prior to her appointment, Judge Baio was in private practice with a varied practice primarily focused on litigation in a wide variety of disputes before state and federal courts, and in trial and appellate courts, and has argued before the Connecticut Appellate and Supreme Court and before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. She was also actively engaged in mediation and arbitration both as a court appointed arbitrator and fact finder and privately. Judge Baio was a partner at Howard, Kohn, Sprague & FitzGerald. Before its merger with Howard, Kohn, Sprague & FitzGerald, Judge Baio operated her own practice, The Law Offices of Baio & Associates. Prior to opening her own firm, she was the Connecticut state managing attorney for a multi state insurance company, and prior to that, a partner at Gordon, Muir and Foley in Hartford. While still engaged actively in the practice of law, she also served as the mayor of Rocky Hill, stepping down in her second term due to her appointment as a judge.
