Professor Richard Stamm is a proud 1992 graduate of UConn Law School. He has had a long and mostly in-house legal career within a diverse range of industries and business structures.
Rich was recently appointed (September 2025) as the VP, General Counsel and Secretary of Big Y Foods, Inc., a family-owned retail grocery chain, with approximately 100 locations throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Prior to Big Y, Rich served as the General Counsel, Secretary and VP of Operations of Activ Surgical, Inc., a small VC backed medical technology startup, where he served as the “one-person legal team” and managed the company’s supply chain, manufacturing and operations. This followed Rich’s 24-year stint with Ocean Spray Cranberries, the iconic branded food and beverage agricultural cooperative. As Vice President General Counsel and Secretary of Ocean Spray during his last 12 years there, Rich became an expert in the structure and unique legal considerations for agricultural cooperatives and worked extensively with the Cooperative’s Board of Directors on education, training, performance assessments, and continuing improvement programs.
In between Ocean Spray and Activ Surgical, Rich worked as General Counsel at Agrify Corporation, where he guided the Company through its IPO.
Rich has an undergraduate degree in Business Economics from Brown University.
Rich lives in Sharon, Massachusetts, with his wife of 30 years, Debra, and yellow lab Zoey. Their two adult sons live and work in New York City.
