Doug Simpson has been an attorney for more than 35 years, specializing in alternative risk management, commercial insurance product development, and insurance regulatory
compliance. As an adjunct professor at the UConn School of Law, he teaches a course on Alternative Risk Management.

In his professional experience, Simpson acquired extensive skills in developing policy language, structuring automation and software licenses, insurance contract interpretation, and solving and preventing legal problems. He spent 25 years working as in-house counsel for property-casualty insurance management at The Hartford and several years in private practice following that before retiring from practice while continuing to teach law and insurance. Some of his publications include co-authoring Creating an Antitrust Compliance Program –Checklist of Issues, Checklists for Corporate Counsel, Business Laws, Inc. (1996); Finite Risk Transfer: May Be Habit Forming — Use Only as Directed, Contingencies (Mar/Apr 2007); Co-author, Chapter 21 Alternative Risk Transfer, Research Handbook on Int’l Ins. Law and Reg., Edward Elgar (2011).

He holds a JD from the UConn School of Law and an AB in Sociology/Psychology from Dartmouth College.
