Days Until Commencement

The University of Connecticut School of Law will hold its 103rd commencement on May 17, 2026. The procession will begin at 10 a.m. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. and is expected to last two hours.

Updates

• There will be no rehearsal, and the ceremony will take place rain or shine.
• Carry only your name card and your hood in the procession. Do not bring a purse, backpack, or other bags. There is no secure area during the ceremony.
• Check the UConn School of Law website to learn if we will follow the sunny-day or rainy-day plan.

Commencement Schedule

9 a.m.

Grab a cup of coffee at the Community Breakfast in front of Chase Hall.

9:45 a.m.

Once you have completed robing, please line up outside the library for a class photo.

10 a.m.

Line up with your division and prepare for the procession.

10:30 a.m.

The herald trumpeters will begin to play, and the formal procession will begin.

Important Instructions

Students report to the library patio to pick up namecards.

If you need help folding your hood, visit the cafe in the library for assistance.

Do not wear your hood! Carry it over your left forearm with the velvet neckband on the outside. The tassel goes on the wearer's left side.

More Information

Academic Regalia

  • Mortarboards or tams are worn during the processional and recessional. Men remove mortarboards or tams for the singing of the national anthem.
  • Tassels are placed to the left.
  • Hoods are worn as follows:
    1. Place hood over head with velvet and colors facing outward.
    2. Button front cord to blouse or shirt
    3. Fasten cord across back to keep hood secure.
    4. Pull colors of hood lining outward from inside center so that they project to the outside and are more prominent.

Ceremony

The University of Connecticut School of Law will hold its commencement ceremony on the law school campus on Sunday, May 17, 2026. The line-up will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the procession will begin at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will last approximately two hours.

You must wear your full academic attire for commencement (cap, tassel, gown, and hood).

Parking

Parking will be available in the school lots as well as neighboring lots (MacKenzie Hall, Hartford International University for Religion and Peace, CT Historical Society). Please follow posted signage as you approach our campus.

Photography

Flash Photography is the official photographer for the University’s Commencement ceremonies. Proofs will be sent to the email address provided on the Name Reader cards distributed at the ceremonies shortly after graduation. Pictures can be ordered online or by phone. Flash Photography can be contacted via email or telephone.

Members of the audience using handheld cameras are asked to remain in their seats and keep the aisles clear.

Procession and Seating

Tickets are not required for the ceremony. Seating is not reserved and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Guest seating will open at 9:00 a.m. There are over 1,000 seats available and will be more than enough for everyone.

Rain Plan

In Case of Rain:

Students will assemble inside the first-floor hallway of Hosmer Hall to pick up name cards at the Communications Center/Reception Desk. The cards will be numbered to help find your place in line. Students will line up in alphabetical order in the hallways of Hosmer with the beginning of the line nearest the last exit door in the Legal Practice area. There will be signs in the hallways to help you find your place. After the ceremony, students will recess out the side entrance of the tent following the platform party and faculty.
