Biography

Alex West is the director of UConn School of Law’s Housing and Eviction Defense Clinic, in which students represent tenants facing eviction, under the supervision of clinic faculty and staff. Professor West was previously the Supervising Attorney at SouthCoast Fair Housing, serving the south coast of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He has also been an AmeriCorps Legal Advocate at South Coastal Counties Legal Services in Fall River, Massachusetts, and an Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellow with the Veterans Project at the Northwest Justice Project in Seattle, addressing the needs of homeless veterans. Professor West has taught Mental Health Law as an adjunct professor at New England Law | Boston and is particularly interested in exploring the intersections of housing and mental health within the legal systems they both inhabit.

Prior to attending law school, Professor West was a social worker in Seattle. In addition to his professional work, he serves on the board of directors for the South Coast LGBTQ+ Network and the Rhode Island Communities for Addiction Recovery Efforts and has been a member of the Massachusetts Trial Courts’ Language Access Advisory Committee.
