Courtney Chaplin
Judge, Connecticut Superior Court
Judge Courtney Chaplin, a graduate of Wofford College and Howard University School of Law, serves as the presiding judge of Part B criminal matters in the Hartford Judicial District. Judge Chaplin began his legal career as a two-term judicial clerk in the Legal Research Division of the Connecticut Superior Court. He then served as term clerk for Judge Stuart Bear at the Connecticut Appellate Court, practiced in the private sector at an insurance defense firm in Hartford, and served as special deputy assistant state’s attorney in the Civil Litigation Bureau of the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office. Immediately prior to his appointment, he served as a trial prosecutor in GA 12 at Manchester Superior Court. During that time, he also began serving as an adjunct professor for the Legal Practice course at the University of Connecticut School of Law.
Judge Chaplin is an active member of the bar, several professional associations, Shiloh Baptist Church in Hartford, Connecticut, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
