Biography

Jack Lienke is an associate professor at the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he teaches and writes about environmental, administrative, and property law. Prior to joining the UConn faculty, Lienke spent a decade at New York University School of Law’s Institute for Policy Integrity, a think tank focused primarily on climate and energy policy. While there, Professor Lienke participated in dozens of regulatory proceedings and filed amicus briefs in regulatory disputes before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and many other federal courts. He also taught for several years at both NYU Law and Brooklyn Law School.

Professor Lienke has particular expertise in the U.S. Clean Air Act and, with Richard L. Revesz, wrote the book “Struggling for Air: Power Plants and the ‘War on Coal'” (Oxford University Press 2016), which chronicles a half-century of efforts to control pollution from coal-fired power plants. His writing on environmental and health policy has also appeared in a wide range of media outlets, including The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Slate.

Early in his legal career, Professor Lienke clerked for the Honorable Janet C. Hall of the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut and worked as a litigation associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP in Manhattan. He holds a JD, cum laude, from NYU Law and a BA, with general honors, from Vassar College.
