Michael Eisele has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry. As an associate general counsel at Travelers, he currently has responsibility for issues arising out of environmental claims, including climate change, asbestos, hazardous waste, silica, latex and radiation. Prior to joining Travelers, Eisele was engaged in a practice concentrated in admiralty and environmental law, including litigation of vessel casualties, pollution liability, regulatory compliance and personal injury defense. He has represented clients in administrative proceedings before the National Transportation Safety Board and the U.S. Coast Guard and currently serves as a member of the Connecticut Pilot Commission. Prior to his legal career, Eisele served as a Merchant Marine Officer aboard merchant and naval auxiliary vessels worldwide. He also served 29 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve, retiring as a commander. He has been an adjunct at the UConn School of Law since 2010, teaching The Law of Marine Insurance. He holds a BS in Marine Transportation from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and a JD from Georgetown University and completed a judicial clerkship in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.
