Adjunct Faculty


Walter Welsh is an adjunct professor at the UConn School of Law, where he has taught courses in tax law and insurance law. He is also engaged in private practice providing estate and tax planning for individuals and families.

He began his career as trial attorney for the Office of Chief Counsel, Internal Revenue Service. At Hartford Financial Services Company, he held a number of roles, including tax counsel and assistant director of taxes and director of government affairs and corporate relations.

More recently, Welsh was executive vice president for taxes and retirement security at the American Council of Life Insurers, where he oversaw policy development and advocacy for federal tax and retirement security law.

He has served on the Advisory Committee of the Federal Bar Association Insurance Tax Seminar and speaks at insurance industry seminars and programs.

He holds a BSME from Tufts University a JD from the UConn School of Law, where he was a member of the Connecticut Law Review; and an LLM in Tax Law from New York University.
