Goldburn P. Maynard Jr.

Professor of Law


Goldburn P. Maynard Jr. joined the UConn Law faculty in 2025. Professor Maynard teaches courses related to the inevitable facts of life: death and taxes. These include trusts and estates, federal income taxation, and estate and gift taxation. Professor Maynard’s research focuses on issues of wealth inequality, tax policy, and equality law. His research has appeared in the California Law Review, Minnesota Law Review, and Yale Law Journal Forum. He co-authored “Penalizing Precarity” with Clint Wallace, published by the Michigan Law Review in 2025.

Professor Maynard was previously an Assistant Professor of Business Law and Ethics at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, where he taught classes in business ethics. Before that he served as an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, and a Visiting Assistant Professor at Florida State University College of Law and Washington University School of Law. Prior to entering law teaching, Professor Maynard worked as an estate tax attorney for the Internal Revenue Service. He began his career as a tax associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. Professor Maynard is a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School and received an LL.M. in Taxation from Northwestern University School of Law.
