Tejas Bhatt
Judge, Superior Court
Born and raised in Bombay, India, Judge Tejas Bhatt received his bachelor’s degree from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics in Bombay and then earned his JD from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2003. Prior to joining the bench, from 2004 to 2018, he worked as a public defender in the Part A courts in New Haven and Hartford, Connecticut. He defended individuals charged with the most serious crimes at trial, in post-conviction proceedings and on appeal before the Connecticut Appellate and Supreme courts. Judge Bhatt was appointed to the bench in 2018. He has presided over criminal, juvenile and habeas corpus matters. He is a co-chair of the Connecticut Bar Association’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and a co-chair of the Connecticut Bar Association and Connecticut Bar Foundation’s Constance Baker Motley Speaker Series on Racial Inequality.
