Lahny Silva ’07 Elected to ALI
Lahny R. Silva '07, a professor at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law with expertise in criminal law, criminal procedure and evidence, has been elected to the American Law Institute, a prestigious organization of scholars working to improve the law. Silva joined the Robert H. McKinney School of Law faculty in 2011. She has worked actively with REACH, the Re-Entry and Community Help Legal Assistance Program, since 2015.
Daniel Krisch ’99 Joins Murtha Cullina
Daniel Krisch ’99 has joined Murtha Cullina as the head of their Appellate practice and partner in the Litigation practice at the firm’s Hartford office. He has over two decades of experience in litigation and appellate issues.
Vernon D. Oliver ’97 Confirmed to Federal Bench

The U.S. Senate has confirmed Vernon D. Oliver ’94 (CLAS), ’97 JD to the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut. President Biden nominated Oliver in May 2023, and the Senate confirmed his nomination on Sept. 19, 2023. After graduating from the UConn School of Law, Oliver worked in private practice, then served as an assistant state's attorney in the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice from 1999 to 2004 and in the Connecticut Office of the Attorney General from 2004 to 2009. Gov. M. Jodi Rell appointed him in 2009 to the Connecticut Superior Court bench.
Laurie Hadick ’14 Joins OceanSound
Laurie (Manion) Hadick ’14, has joined the private equity firm OceanSound as director of compliance. She previously served as chief compliance officer for private funds manager HealthCor Management and as compliance officer for global asset manager Alphadyne Asset Management.

Dirk Hanschel was trained at various law schools in Germany, the UK and Australia, took his doctoral and postdoctoral degrees at Mannheim University and is currently a professor of German, European and International Public Law at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany. Since 2019 he has been a Fellow at the Max-Planck-Institute for Social Anthropology. In 2021 he was appointed Martin Flynn Global Law Professor at UConn Law School. His research focuses, inter alia, on topics of international environmental and human rights law, comparative constitutional law, as well as law and anthropology. He currently conducts an interdisciplinary project on “Environmental Rights in Cultural Context” and on rights of nature in Ecuador and Columbia, looking at novel rights-based approaches to environmental protection from local perspectives.
