Intellectual Life
The distinguished faculty, dynamic scholarly centers, and vibrant student-run journals at the UConn School of Law enrich the intellectual life of the campus and advance understanding of law through their cutting-edge research, outstanding publications, and stellar events.
Scholarly Events
UConn Law holds many scholarly events throughout the year. Journals host annual symposia, bringing experts to campus to discuss cutting edge topics of the day. A series called “In Conversation” focuses on recent decisions of the United States Supreme Court and other important legal issues. Additionally, other events throughout the year bring legal experts to campus to share their insights into a variety of topics.

2025 Connecticut Law Review Symposium
The Fourth Estate in a Time of Crisis
This thought-provoking symposium examined the evolving threats to the news media’s ability to serve its historic role as the “Fourth Estate.” Experts from law, journalism, and media policy came together to explore whether legal frameworks can help counteract these challenges and safeguard press freedom.
Panelists discussed whether existing laws, such as those governing defamation and broadcast, adequately protect both the media and First Amendment rights. They also tackled pressing questions about the regulation of social media, the protection of journalists from harassment and censorship, and the growing influence of wealthy private actors who may seek to silence critical voices.
Upcoming Scholarly Event

November 10: In Conversation: Executive Branch Dealmaking and the Future of Higher Education
The Law School’s In Conversation series brings together leading scholars, lawyers and policymakers to discuss some of the most significant legal issues facing our country today. The topic for this roundtable will be the Executive Branch’s efforts to regulate institutions of higher education and the implications for, among other things, our foundational ideals of democracy, free speech, and equality. A reception with credit bar will precede the formal program.
