Hope C. Seeley ’89 Appointed to CT Appellate Court

Hope C. Seeley '89 has been appointed to the Connecticut Appellate Court by Gov. Ned Lamont. The General Assembly confirmed her nomination on May 2, 2022. Seeley previously served for nine years as a Superior Court judge. At the time of her elevation to the Appellate Court, she was an assistant administrative judge for the Judicial District of Hartford and the presiding criminal judge. Before her appointment to the bench, she worked in private practice on criminal cases at the trial and appellate levels in state and federal courts. She has also taught as an adjunct professor at the UConn School of Law.

Joan K. Alexander ’87 Appointed to CT Supreme Court

Joan K. Alexander

Joan K. Alexander '87 has been confirmed as an associate justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court, having previously served two years on the Connecticut Appellate Court and 20 years as a Superior Court judge. Gov. Ned Lamont nominated Alexander on April 13, 2022, and the General Assembly confirmed her appointment on April 29, 2022. While serving on the Superior Court served as the chief administrative judge for the Connecticut Judicial Branch’s Criminal Division, chair of the Sentence Review Division, and co-chair of the Judicial Media Committee. Before her appointment to the bench, she served as a state prosecutor. Before attending UConn Law, she earned her undergraduate degree from Yale University.

Howard B. Brown Jr. ’73 Retires

Howard B. Brown Jr. ’73, former commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Banking, recently announced his formal retirement from the practice of law. After graduating from law school, Brown worked at The Hartford Insurance Group, where he was the first attorney of color to be hired by the company and where he reached the position of associate counsel. He then served as deputy banking commissioner before becoming commissioner in 1985. He was elected chair of the Federal Bank Legislation Committee by the national organization of bank regulators and was honored at the White House. He subsequently worked as a vice president of Kidder Peabody, co-founded the investment banking firm Community Reinvestment Associates, and served as senior counsel with Bush & Miller in Atlanta. He also taught as an adjunct professor of Business Law at Morehouse College, his alma mater.

Seven UConn Law Alumni Nominated to Superior Court

Seven graduates of the UConn School of Law were nominated to the Connecticut Supreme Court by Gov. Ned Lamont on April 13, 2022. They are Scott R. Chadwick ’87, a probate judge and litigator; Assistant Connecticut Attorney General Thamar Esperance-Smith ’11; Assistant Connecticut Attorney General Josephine S. Graff ’01; New Britain State’s Attorney Brian W. Preleski ’91; Charles M. Stango ’95, the supervisory assistant state’s attorney in Milford; Greater Hartford Legal Aid attorney Cecil J. Thomas ’06; and David L. Zagaja ’93, supervisory assistant state’s attorney.

Daniel Krisch ’99 Elected to American Academy of Appellate Lawyers

Daniel Krisch ’99 has been elected to the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, which recognizes outstanding appellate lawyers and promotes the improvement of appellate advocacy and the administration of the appellate courts.  Krisch is a partner at the law firm of Halloran Sage, where he chairs the Appellate Law and Advocacy Practice Group.
