Local Initiatives Support Corporation Names Michael Skrebutenas ’91 Senior Vice President for Housing

The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) has named Michael Skrebutenas ’91, a long-time national affordable housing leader, as its new senior vice president for housing. In this role, Skrebutenas will lead investment and advocacy in quality rental and for-sale housing across the country. Prior to this position, Skrebutenas worked at New York-based Community Preservation Corporation (CPC) as senior vice president and regional director of community preservation in the Albany office.

Cynthia Thornton ’86 Promoted to Colonel

Cynthia Thornton ’86 was promoted on Sept. 11, 2021, from lieutenant colonel to colonel in the Delaware Air National Guard, which she serves as a reserve judge advocate attorney. She is the first female JAG officer and the first minority woman to reach the rank of colonel in the history of the Delaware Air National Guard. In civilian life, her law practice specializes in domestic and immigration law.

Christina Canales ’13 named partner at Morrison Mahoney

Morrison Mahoney has announced the election of Christina Canales ’13 as a partner in the firm’s Hartford office. Canales’ practice concentrates in the defense of medical malpractice and professional liability, representing hospitals, assisted living facilities, and various medical professionals. Canales also has experience defending non-medical professionals, including attorneys.

Ryan Hoyler ’19 joins Hinckley Allen

Hoyler ’19 has joined Hinckley Allen as an associate in the firm’s real estate group where he will focus on environmental law, land use, and zoning. Hoyler will join the firm’s Hartford office from Remy Moose Manley, in Sacramento, CA, where he worked closely with developers, engineers, and government agencies to find practical solutions for clients.

UConn Law Alumni Named in Managing IP’s IP Stars for 2021

Managing IP has named its IP Stars for 2021, which aims to highlight firms and individuals for contentious and non-contentious IP advice. Michael Cantor ’83 and Leah Reimer ’95 of Cantor Colburn LLP were amongst the lawyers recognized this year. Cantor is highly specialized in patent law, and oversees hundreds of lawyers who help companies across the world with their IP assets. Reimer helps lead the firm’s Chemical, Material, and Life Sciences Department, with a focus on legal and technical issues.
